Lester Francis Eastman, 81, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018, at his home with his family by his side.

Born on March 12, 1937, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Ernest and Helen (Tubbs) Eastman.

Lester was a 1955 graduate of Fort Ann High School and after high school he attended Adirondack Community College. He also served in the United States National Guard.

On March 10, 1962, Lester married the love of his life, Gwen Potter. They have been married for 56 years and for 35 of those years they fostered over 100 children.

Lester was employed by the State of New York at the Wilton Development Center as a Senior Store Clerk from 1961 till his retirement in 1995. Also during this time he worked as a Real Estate Salesman for several different agencies. He was a member and former Trustee of the Gansevoort Methodist Church. Lester was a “original member” of the Town Zoning Board of Appeals and Town Planning Board. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for his children. Lester was also a Field Director of NCHA (National Campers and Hikers Assoc.)

He enjoyed bluegrass music, going to Blue Grass Festivals in his camper, visiting with friends, and making friends because “No one is a stranger”. Lester also enjoyed going camping, flea markets, garage sales, collecting and selling antiques and playing pool at the senior center. Lester was an avid New York Mets fan who never missed a game. He loved deer hunting, traveling, going on cruises, going out to eat and dancing with his wife.

In addition to his parents, Lester was predeceased by his brothers, Louis Eastman and Ernest “Bear” Eastman Jr.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Gwen; his children, Hope (Eastman) Arlin and her husband, Chuck of Gansevoort, Chris Wentworth and her husband, Paul of South Glens Falls, Mary Clausen and her husband, Robert of Gansevoort, Tanya Eastman of Gansevoort, John Eastman and his wife, Michelle of South Glens Falls; his grandchildren, Jeremy (Sarah) Wentworth, Curtis (Alissa) Wentworth, Josiah Wentworth, Bethany (Bill) Moon, Rachel Wentworth, Morgan (Jay) Michel, Kelli (Chris) Faggiano, Aaron Haas, Alex Haas, Justine Morrison, Melissa (Elliot) Segraves, Korie (Todd Harris) Arlin, Christopher Eastman, Zackary Eastman, Joshaua Eastman, Alan (Ashley) Cook and Michael Cook; his great-grandchildren, Carter and Anderson Wentworth, Liam, Dominic and Christopher Wentworth, Jason Moon, Georgia Gonzalez, Adaline Harris, Valencia Michel, Raymond Faggiano, Grace & Carson Cook and Mallory DePan, Asher Morrison; his sisters, Patricia (Larry) Spencer and Phyllis Farley; his dog, Buddy; and several nieces nephews, cousins and countless friends.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 1pm following the calling hours at the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Dufford, pastor of the Fortsville United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will follow the Funeral Service at the Gansevoort Cemetery.
