Obituary for Richard Earl Wormwood

WARRENSBURG

Richard E. McNaughton Wormwood, 80, passed away on November 27, 2016 in Kingston, NY.

Born May 21, 1936 in Old Forge, NY, he was the son of the late Earl Francis and Eleanor (Norton) Wormwood.

Richard graduated from Old Forge High School in 1954. He worked as a ski instructor at West Mountain, Big Sur Mountain in California, and was the director of the ski school at Wood Valley. Richard was also a columnist for the Adirondack Journal and Warrensbury/Lake George new, as well as being a self- published author of “Wilderness Option” and “Adirondack Frontier”. Richard was the co-owner of Adirondack Rustic Miniatures for 32 years with his wife Donna.

Richard was an avid outdoorsman with a great love of nature who cherished his wife of 35 years. He loved his children and grandchildren as well as camping, canoeing, skiing, hiking, snow-shoeing and traveling. He loved the ocean. He was a free spirit full of energy with a wonderfully dry sense of humor. Richard was such a gentle soul that he would brush away n insect rather than kill it. He had a respect for nature and all living things.

In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his daughter Anneene K. Wormwood and his brother-in-law Michael Harrington.

Left to cherish his memory are his ife of 35 years, Donna C. Harrington Wormwood, his son Chauncey Wormwood and his wife Heidi of Portland, OR, his step-daughter Melissa Goucher and her husband David of Warrensburg, his son-in-law Terry Eaton and his wife Diane from Portland, OR, his grandchildren; David Goucher Jr, and Nazareth Goucher of Warrensburg, and Gavin and Daphne Wormwood from Portland, OR, as well as his nieces; Michelle Ogsbury and her husband Tim, Amelia Harrington and her companion Van, and Erin Harrington and companion Jackie, nephew Randy Harrington and his wife Kerry, great-nieces; Adriana Finley, Taylor David, and Logan Stevens. Great-grand-nieces; Addison and Kadie, and his aunt and uncle Denham and Sylvia Griffin.

A Memorial Gathering of family and friends will be held in Richard’s honor from 2-5pm on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the American Legion Hall, 215 River Street, Warrensburg, NY 12885. Arrangements are in the care of the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828. A very special thank you to the doctors and entire staff at Kingston Hospital for their excellent, kind, and compassionate care. The doctors and staff went above and beyond in the medical treatment and care of Richard, but also in the comfort, kindness and humanity shown not only to their patient but to the entire family. Kingston Hospital and staff fully honored and respected the wishes of the patent and are true examples of what medical care should be.
