Obituary for Daniel Edward Fitzgibbon

Daniel Edward Fitzgibbon, 64, of Riverview St. passed away at home on Wednesday November 16, 2016 with his family by his side.

Born in Glens Falls, NY on September 30, 1952, he was the son of the late, Daniel and Kathryn (Mornhinweg) Fitzgibbon.

Dan attended South Glens Falls High School graduating in the class of 1971.

On July 25, 1976, Dan married the love of his life, Deborah L. Baldwin at St. Clements Church in Saratoga.

Dan retired from the NYS Department of Transportation where he worked in bridge maintenance for ten years. Prior to his employment with the state he worked at Finch Pruyn.

After graduation from high school, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for his three years of service.

He enjoyed fishing with his best friend, Pat Nolan in Lake Nebo, a weekend tradition. He also enjoyed hunting. Most of all he loved watching his sons play hockey while they were growing up. Dan enjoyed playing football in his youth, playing for the semiprofessional team, the “Wings” from 1972-76.

In addition to his parents, Dan is predeceased by his brother, William J. Fitzgibbon; and his brothers in law, John Dorvee, Jack Celeste and David Centerbar.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Deborah Fitzgibbon, of South Glens Falls; his sons, Daniel Fitzgibbon and his wife, Rebecca, of South Glens Falls and Shawn Fitzgibbon and his wife, Kelli, of Queensbury; his grandson, Matthew Jacox, of South Glens Falls; his granddaughter, Callie Fitzgibbon, of South Glens Falls; his sisters, Rose Dorvee, Ann Celeste, both of South Glens Falls, Nancy Cooper and her husband, Paul, of Cocoa FL, Margaret Centerbar, of South Glens Falls and Mary Hathorn and her husband, John, of Atlanta, GA; his sister in law, Christine Fitzgibbon, of South Glens Falls; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnephews, and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4–7 pm on Friday November 18, 2016 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St. South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday November 19, 2016 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, South Glens Falls, with the Rev. Guy A. Childs, pastor, officiating.

A Rite of Committal will follow at Southside Cemetery, South Glens Falls.

Memorial donations in Dan’s name can be made to the Moreau Community Center c/o Holiday Caring Program, 144 Main St. South Glens Falls, NY 12803.
