Betty Jane Chamberlain
MOREAU * Betty Jane Chamberlain, 85, of Thomas Avenue, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 20, 2016.
Born October 28, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Ceynowa) Widiger.
Betty moved from Chicago, IL, to Hudson Falls, NY, as a teenager with her family. She graduated from Hudson Falls High School, Class of 1948. She went on many luncheons with her “48ers,” with whom she kept in contact right up to her passing.
Betty married Thomas Chamberlain on June 10, 1951, at St. Mary's Church in Hudson Falls.
She was a longtime Librarian Aide at Moreau Elementary School. This job combined two of her interests: reading and working with children.
Family and her Catholic faith were very important to Betty. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Michael’s Church in South Glens Falls and sang in the church choir for many years. Betty was an avid sports fan, rooting for any “Chicawgo” team. She faithfully kept score at her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, attending as many games as she could. People in the crowd would often come to Betty for updates on the games (as they knew she had it recorded on paper). Betty was also a proud breast-cancer survivor.
Betty and Tom, with good friends and family, traveled extensively in their retirement years. Betty was especially fond of Hawaii and Disney World. She loved dogs, especially Cocker Spaniels. Since her childhood, there was always a dog (or two!) in her home. Betty enjoyed sitting by the pool on a nice day with a book and some music playing in the background, particularly Neil Diamond, several of whose concerts she attended.
Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband Tom; sister Eleanor, and her husband Stanley Banach; sister-in-law Mary Benoit; and brother-in-law, Leonard Roberts.
Survivors include her children: Kevin Chamberlain and his wife, Vanessa, of Glenville, Sandy Long and her husband, Tim, of Moreau, Nancy McCabe and her husband, Rich, of Moreau, Scott Chamberlain and his wife, Donna, of Lake Norman, N.C., and Terry Chamberlain and his wife, Tammie, of Queensbury; her grandchildren: Carter Chamberlain and his wife, Jen; Stephanie Harageones and her husband Charles; Gregory Chamberlain; Kory Long; Scott McCabe and his wife Megan; Kari McCabe and her fiancé Jason Burke, Bradford and Cierra Chamberlain; and Megan and Brooke Chamberlain; her siblings-in-law: Jane Roberts, Judy Broderick and her husband, Murray, and Richard Chamberlain and his companion, Barbara Taylor; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Germany. Betty also has two great-grandchildren: Shealyn and Bryce McCabe.
