Obituary for Robert Kirtland Bennett

South Glens Falls

Robert K. (Bob) Bennett, 97, passed away peacefully Monday December 10, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on July 1, 1921 in Ticonderoga he was the son of the late Thomas Jeffery and Gertrude Isabelle (Bryan) Bennett.

He graduated from Ticonderoga High School class of 1939.

A veteran of World War II serving in the Army Corp of Engineers with service in England and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland.

At the end of WWII, on September 15, 1945, at the Baptist Church in Glens Falls, Bob married his high school sweet heart Connie J. Witherbee, also from Ticonderoga when he had just returned from Europe with the US Army. This turned out to be the start of a relationship that was amazing and wonderful and lasted for over 67 years until her passing in March of 2013.

Bob was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 233 of Glens Falls.

Bob worked at Parson Ford of Glens Falls and 21 years for Wilhelm Auto Sales as parts manager retiring on May 1, 1990.

He enjoyed vacations in Maine, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, also going to the Big E Fair, working on the house and car, and spending time with family and friends.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Joan Audette and husband Bob of Queensbury; granddaughter, Jennifer and husband Tadd Rollins of Bouckville, NY; grandson, Jason Audette and wife Jessica of Malta; great granddaughters, Taylor and Paige Rollins; great grandsons, Zachary Rollins and Brayden Audette; niece, Lani Wright; nephew, Bruce Wright.

Family and friends may call from 2p.m to 4p.m. on Monday December 17, 2018 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 136 Main St. South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A funeral service will be held following the calling hours at 4p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the spring time at Southside Cemetery, South Glens Falls.

In Lieu of flowers memorial donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Moreau Rescue Squad 1583 Route 9 Moreau, NY 12828-9433.

The family would like to especially thank his caregivers Sue, Patty, Amanda and Betty for their kind and compassionate care.
