Obituary for Elizabeth J. "Betty" Coley (Porter)

Moreau

Elizabeth “Betty” J. (Porter) Coley, 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Glens Falls Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Born August 4, 1935 in Ticonderoga, NY, she was the daughter of the late Marc and Rose (LaTour) Porter.

Betty graduated from Ticonderoga High School Class of 1954 where she was the Queen of the Prom and the Captain of the cheerleading team.

Betty was employed as a teaching assistant for BOCES in Saratoga for many years where she particularly enjoyed working with Dave, Cindy, Linda and Tammi.

She was a very social person and made many friends at The Summit where she recently moved, including Pat, Theresa and Barbara. Betty could often be found enjoying Tuesday and Friday night poker games, and knitting hats for the new babies at the Glens Falls Snuggery with her friends.

Most of all, Betty was devoted to her friends and family. She loved to attend all the sporting events that her children and grandchildren played in, and she never missed a game. She will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, Betty is predeceased by several cousins including two that she thought of as sisters; Doris Baxter and Peggy Secone, and her ex-husband John Coley.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; John Coley and his wife Connie of Virginia, Julie White and her husband Paul of Moreau, and Jody Wade and her husband Mark of Florida, her grandchildren; Michael Rushman and his wife Corie of Moreau, and Matthew Rushman and his partner Shawn Huckins of Denver, CO, her brother Marc Porter and his wife Barbara of Moreau, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call from 2-4pm on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11am on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, 15 Maplewood Parkway, South Glens Falls, NY 12803 with Rev. William Puckey officiating.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Southside Cemetery in South Glens Falls.
