Obituary for Luella Saunders Smith

Greenwich –

Luella (Ellie) Saunders Smith, 91, died at home on Saturday, October 27, 2018. Born September 16, 1927, in Argyle, she was the daughter of the late Leland Andrew Saunders and Ethel White Clark.

Ellie was an active member of the United Methodist Church, serving at times as a trustee and member of various committees. She was instrumental in the establishment and running of the church fritter booth, which is still in existence today. She had a great sense of fun and was a lover of all games. A talented seamstress, her Halloween costumes were amazing, and many family members still have the baby quilts she made for them. She was a very social person and liked nothing better than a “good visit” with someone. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have listened to one of her stories, laughed at her endless supply of jokes, and learned about life on a farm in the late 20’s and 30’s and what it was like to live through a world war.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Bernice and Minnie, her brothers, Cyril, James, Don, Robert, Merrill, Lee, John, her grandson, Benjamin Smith and most recently her husband of 72 loving years, James C. Smith.

Survivors include her sister, Becky Smith, her children, Brandon Smith, Julie (Al) Valerio, and Stacia (Paul) Brigadier, her grandchildren, Jason Smith, Jessica LaCross, Brieanna Smith, Tad Smith, Adam Brigadier and Nicholas Brigadier, her great grandchildren, Miranda Smith and Annabelle LaCross, and many, many nieces and nephews.

At Luella’s request there will be no calling hours.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

A Service for both James and Luella Smith will be held at the Methodist Church at 1 Gray Ave, Greenwich, at 9am on Saturday, November 10, 2018, with refreshments served immediately afterward.
