Obituary for Rae Audrey Baker (Richards)

Argyle

Rae Audrey (Richards) Baker, 88, of Argyle, died peacefully in her sleep, following a massive stroke, on July 23, 2018, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born April 9, 1930 in Argyle, she is predeceased by her parents, Harper K. and Bessie (Brayman) Richards, and her late husband of 28 years, Robert K. Baker.

Rae was a 1948 graduate of Argyle Central School and a life-long member of the Argyle United Methodist Church, enjoying serving in many capacities, including singing in the choir and Election Night dinners held at Sheridan Hall and the former Argyle Grange Hall. She was a secretary at the Imperial Color, Chemical and Paper Corporation of Glens Falls. With Bob, Rae purchased and created the Argyle Variety Shop, continuing to work there after its sale.

Rae enjoyed high school basketball games, her daily Post-Star, listening to the radio, and her evening news broadcasts. As a youth and young adult, she spent parts of her summers at Lake Lauderdale, NY and Hampton Beach, NH. Above all, Rae enjoyed people, be it at the store, church, phone calls, cards and letters, or outings with her young extended family and their friends.

Survivors include a son, Kent (Yolanda) of Poultney, VT; grandchildren Emma, Jon, and Brock Baker of Poultney, VT; sisters Shirley Adams of Cambridge and Joyce Austin of Bradenton, FL, and; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand-nieces, and great-grand-nephews. Rae was predeceased by her sisters Naida McGeoch and Yvonne Esser Copeland.

The family especially thanks Dr. Sean Bain and the nursing staff of the Telemetry Unit at Glens Falls Hospital for honoring Rae’s directives, their many kindnesses, and for affording her a peaceful, pain-free, and dignified passing.

There will be no calling hours.

A private graveside burial will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Argyle.

Memorial donations may be sent to the music fund of the Argyle Methodist Church, 5184 State Route 40, Argyle, NY 12809-2744 or to the charity of one’s choice. Above all, do something positive that might remind you of her small, quiet benevolences and brighten the corner where you are.

Arrangements are in the care of the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main St. Argyle. For online condolences and to view Rae’s Book of Memories, please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.
