Laura Borrman Smith passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on June 14, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital. Laura was born January 3, 1931 in Potsdam, St. Lawrence County, New York, the daughter of the late William F. and Bernice Bartlett Borrman and grew up in Norwood, New York. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Anna Weismann and Bernice Palos and a nephew. Laura was valedictorian and a 1949 graduate of Norwood High School, a graduate of Keuka College and Syracuse University.

During the 1950’s Laura was a school librarian at Ovid and then at Pashley School, Glenville. In 1960 she went to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she resided for about 30 years, raised her daughter and was a reading teacher in the Milwaukee Public Schools.

After retiring in the early 1990’s, Laura returned to New York and had lived in Queensbury for the past 20 years.

Laura attended The Church of the Messiah in Glens Falls.

Laura was a volunteer at the Crandall Library. She enjoyed going for walks in the morning at Hovey Pond and quiet activities at home including reading. She also enjoyed going on road trips (including one covering all of Route 66) and other adventures with her daughter. Laura was independent and vivacious to almost the end still going out and driving in her car nearly every day.

Laura is survived by her daughter Valerie and son-in-law Ralph Arnold, two nephews, three nieces, five grand nephews, one grand- niece and several cousins.

At Laura’s request there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are in the care of the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 10am on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Church of the Messiah, 296 Glen Street, Glens Falls, NY, 12801 with Rev. Karl Griswold-Kuhn officiating.
