Obituary for Paul Donald Gaulin

Paul Donald Gaulin

Hudson Falls

Paul Donald Gaulin, 75, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 4, 1943 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Donald and Edith (Andrews) Gaulin. Paul was an altar boy for twelve years at St. Paul’s Church where he was baptized and received his confirmation.

After graduating from Hudson Falls High School in 1962, Paul followed in his father’s footsteps and became a volunteer fireman with the Charles R. Paris Fire Company. He continued to volunteer until he was drafted in April of 1966 into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Paul was proud of his service and was Honorably Discharged from the reserves on April 20, 1972.

Upon returning from the war, Paul took a job with Imperial Color Works of Glens Falls. Later in 1969, he took a position at Scott Paper that would last 39 years. He retired as a machine tender from Irving Tissue.

Paul cherished fond memories of his children, Daniel, Tami and Mary at his family’s camp on Hadlock Pond where they would go fishing and boating. He loved spending time outdoors even if it was just sitting on the porch. He especially enjoyed helping out at the Flanigan Farm and spending time with his sister, Elaine, and brother-in-law at their small engine repair shop.

On March 25, 2000, Paul married June Marie Bromley. Together they enjoyed showing their vintage Firebird and watching Audreanna show her horses. One of their latest ventures was refurbishing a living quarter’s horse trailer that traveled the Mid-West.

A self-taught handyman, Paul reveled in anything electrical, mechanical or plumbing. Paul’s appreciative family and friends continually provided him with challenges which he readily accepted. He was quick to lend a hand and his tools were organized and ready to travel. Paul took great pride in keeping his fleet of vehicles in working order from his Trek 7000 bicycle to the Ford F-350.

His pride and joy was a 1985 California II Moto Guzzi motorcycle. Paul enjoyed cruising back roads with family and friends. He often rode with both his hands held high in the air on his automatic Guzzi!

Paul had many diverse interests. For years he was a member of the VFW Post 2475 and the American Legion Riders. He liked to listen to music of many genres. He enjoyed reading about history, consumer reports and especially technical manuals. He collected pocket knives, tack pins, light houses and baseball caps

In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his sister, Elaine Henderson and his brother-in-law, Jim.

Left to cherish his memory include his much loved wife of 18 years, June; his step-daughter Audreanna Bromley of Idaho; his children, Daniel Gaulin (Lynn) of Hudson Falls, Tami LaCombe (Rick) of Maine and Mary Gaulin of Queensbury; four grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Paul’s request there will be no calling hours. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 1:30pm on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Paul’s memory can be made to the American Legion Hudson Falls Post 547, 72 Pearl Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839; to the S.P.C.A. of Upstate New York, 588 Queensbury Ave, Queensbury, NY 12804; or to a charity of one’s choice.

His family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Curtis Keech for his close friendship, to High Peaks Hospice for their support and compassion as well as to the Patriot Riders for honoring Paul.

Arrangements are in the care of M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 136 Main St. South Glens Falls, NY 12803. To view Paul’s Book of Memories and post online condolences please visit kilmerfuneralhome.com.
