Obituary for William "Bill" Liddle

William "Bill" Liddle
William Stanley (Bill) Liddle

Argyle – William Stanley Liddle passed peacefully into the arms of his merciful and gracious Saviour, surrounded by his loving family, in the home that he loved on his 70th birthday - June 24, 2018. He persisted in living each day to the fullest despite his battle with cancer.

Bill was born at Glens Falls Hospital on June 24, 1948 to Stanley and Anna Marie (Gates) Liddle. He was raised on his family farm on Moon Road in Argyle, where he developed his passion for farming at an early age. He went on to continue farming on the family farm and developing the registered Holstein herd, Liddle Acres. While farming at Liddle Acres, he received the New York State Farm Family of the Year by the Farmers Home Administration in 1984. He also was awarded a belt buckle for the Ten Ton Club, a distinguished award for maintaining a herd average of 20,000 milk pounds.

He began exhibiting dairy cattle as a youth at the Washington County Fair. The knowledge and enjoyment he gained from those experiences, he later passed on to his children and grandchildren, who have followed his footsteps in exhibiting and showing. He loved to travel all over to watch his family exhibit cows and to watch his son judge. Whether it was around Washington County, New York, The State Fair in Syracuse, The World Dairy Expo, Switzerland, or the many other places he travelled, he loved to visit farms and talk about farming.
Bill and Judy expanded Liddle Acres, growing and marketing fresh produce and cage-free eggs at local markets for many years. Recently, they began to make and market maple syrup as Limacs Maple, in partnership with their daughter and son-in-law.

Bill was employed by the Town of Argyle Highway Department for the past thirteen years, maintaining and keeping roads safe for travel. Previously, Bill was the farm manager at Comstock Correctional Facility and Pam Tom Farms, in Hudson Falls, where he led Pam Tom Farm to receive the Premier Exhibitor Award at the 1989 and 1990 World Dairy Expo. Bill also loved to drive trucks. He was a driver for Fort Edward Express, Dave Cheney Pool Water, The Fort Miller Co. yard crew, and would occasionally haul loads of pool water for his son-in-law and daughter’s business, A&S Pool Water.

Bill married Judy Saunders on July 21st 1968. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this July - an occasion that he was looking forward to celebrating with his loving wife. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, family member, and friend.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed watching the various sporting and scholastic activities that his children and grandchildren were involved in. He enjoyed vacations with family to Florida, Maine, and South Carolina. He enjoyed gathering for family celebrations and often would participate in kickball, corn hole, or whatever activity his family was enjoying.

Bill was also involved in many community and local organizations. He served in the Argyle Fire Department and served as member and an elder at the North Argyle Presbyterian Church and the Argyle Presbyterian Church. He continued to grow in his faith through his involvement with his small growth group and Men’s Bible Study Group.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Anna Marie Liddle, father-in-law Lyle Saunders, mother-in-law Norma Saunders, and his longtime friend George Davis, whom he missed dearly over the years.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 50 years Judy Liddle; their four children who all reside in Argyle, Laurie (Dean) McWhorter, Adam (Nicole) Liddle, Kirk (Beth) Liddle , Jill (Dan) Gaulin, his favorite pet Max; grandchildren, Robert (Lauren) McWhorter, Megan McWhorter, Anthony, Brock and Hailee Liddle, Greg and Kelli Haskins, Erica and Derek Liddle, Alivia and Sarah Gaulin, and great-grandsons Maverick and Paxton McWhorter; his siblings James (Jackie) Liddle of Argyle, Mary (Ken) Stewart of Argyle, and Lynne Liddle of Colorado; JoAnn (Steve) Ray of Argyle, Rodney (Shannon) Saunders of Argyle, Debbie (Glenn) Stevens of Argyle, Ron (Tammy) Saunders of Fort Edward, Ricky Saunders of Argyle, and Rusty (Nancy) Saunders of Fort Edward; aunts and uncles, Betty Goodsell of Argyle, Dorothy (Stanley) Tripp of Argyle, Patsy Jeckel of Colorado, and Robert Liddle of Colorado; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Chris Case and his wife Jenn for being with Dad and guiding him from the beginning to the end of his illness, for the excellent care by Dr. Liebers and his staff, the Saratoga Inpatient Physicians, Dr. Sooribalan and Deanna, the nurses at Saratoga Hospital on A-3, especially his girls Lan, Melanie, Laura, Lenai and all the other staff that made him comfortable, High Peaks Hospice, Phil and Nina. They would also like to thank his caregiver and friend, Lisa Dennis; his good friends Bill Roberts, who Bill enjoyed going for rides with, and Steve McLean, who brought comfort through prayer to both Bill and his family in the last few weeks, both of whom treated him the same even as his illness progressed; and his many special friends from the church community and dairy industry.

Friends may call from 1 to 3pm and 6 to 8pm on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main Street, Argyle, NY 12809.

The community is invited to attend a service at the Argyle Presbyterian Church at 10 am on Thursday, June 28, 2018, followed by a graveside service at the North Argyle Cemetery. A reception will directly follow at the Argyle Presbyterian Church.

Bill enjoyed his weekly Sunday night visits to his son’s farm, LIddleholme. In honor of him, Liddleholme will be hosting an open house during milking time on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at the farm from 6 to 8pm.

In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make donations in Bill’s name may contribute to the Argyle Presbyterian Church, c/o Memorial Fund P.O. Box 66, Argyle, NY 12809 or to Saratoga Hospital c/o Mollie Wilmot Radiation Oncology Center, 211 Church Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
