Obituary for Frank Clark Hardick

Frank Clark Hardick
Frank C. Hardick: 1932-2018

Frank C. Hardick, 86, of 51 Cedar Court in Queensbury, passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family following a brief illness, at Glens Falls Hospital on June 23.
Frank was a hard-working family man who made his living as a professional engineer. He enjoyed restoring classic Ford cars, home renovation, sailing, and spending time with his wife and two daughters in the Adirondacks.
After graduating from South Glens Falls High School in 1949, Frank enlisted in the Army, and then switched to the Navy, where he served as fire-control technician. He served during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Besugo, U.S.S. Blackfin and U.S.S. Queenfish. Following his service, he earned an engineering degree from Montana State College at Bozeman.
Following graduation, he worked at Sandy Hill in Hudson Falls. He later opened his own engineering consulting business, Hardick Associates of South Glens Falls. His business focused on converting air-polluting coal/coke-fueled foundries to electric induction furnaces, eliminating their harmful emissions. He designed several buildings in the Lake George area, including the chapel at Double-H Hole-in-the-Woods Camp for seriously ill children in Lake Luzerne.
Each year, he enthralled engineering students from Clarkson University by teaching them how to design and build the support structure for massive wooden rollercoasters, as he explained his work at The Comet, located at The Great Escape.
After retiring in 2007, Frank traveled extensively with his wife Jean (Ogden), who survives him. They were high school classmates and were married for 61 years. Frank said Jean was the sunshine in his life.
Frank was born in Hampton Manor, NY, on January 7, 1932. Frank was predeceased by his father Frank Hardick and his mother Florence Clark, and by a sister June Tubbs (Junior) of Hadley. He is survived by his sister Susan Brennan (Robert) of Argyle and Nancy Hardick of Argyle, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is survived by daughters Diana Hardick (Miranda) of San Jose, CA, and Deborah H. Sheehan (John) of Albany, and one grandchild, Hannah E. Sheehan of Albany, who was to Frank’s heart both the moon and the stars.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the U.S. Submarine Veterans National Scholarship Fund c/o Chairman Paul Orstad, 30 Surrey Ln., Norwich, CT, 96369-6541.
Services are Wednesday, June 27, 2018, from 4 to 6 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home in South Glens Falls, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, 12803.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at the funeral home.
Interment will be at noon following the Funeral Service at Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
