Obituary for Nannette Byrnes Loffredo

Nannette Byrnes  Loffredo
Hudson Falls

Nannette Byrnes Loffredo, age 95, died on April 24, 2018. Born November 14, 1922 at the Glens Falls Hospital, Nannette was the daughter of Dr. J. Leonard Byrnes and Dorothy (McCall) Byrnes. Nannette attended St. Mary’s Hudson Falls Grade School (Class of 1936) through the 8th grade, graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1940, was educated at Penn Hall Junior College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania in 1942 and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston in 1944.

Nannette lived and worked in New York City for 47 years. She worked at Abbott Kimball Fashion Advertising, Vogue Photography Studios, Esquire and Cornet Magazines and Conde Nast Publications, publishers of Vogue, Glamour and House and Garden. She also worked at WRFM Radio in NYC. In 1955, Nannette traveled to Europe and while living in Paris for 10 months she worked for the International News Service.
In 1962, Nannette married Alfonse J. Loffredo, who worked for Alitalia and the German-based airline Lufthansa. They traveled the world together. Nannette traveled all over Europe, including the Scandinavian countries, made fourteen different trips to Greece and a South African safari, that included traveling 3500 miles by car through South Africa. They also traveled to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Israel, Syria, Jordan and all of the Middle East before returning to her home in Hudson Falls in 1990. No matter where Nannette was living, she always made it back to her family home in Hudson Falls, where she was able to celebrate 96 Christmases with family and friends.

Nannette was preceded in death by her husband, Alfonse J. Loffredo; brothers John Leonard Byrnes, Jr. and his wife Mary (Kuebler) of Lakewood, Ohio; Robert McCall Byrnes and his wife, Joan (Sheridan) Byrnes of Newburgh, New York, and James Peter Byrnes of Mount Holly, Virginia.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Grow) Byrnes of Mount Holly, Virginia; nieces and nephews Barbara Byrnes-Lenarcic (Ken) of Jamestown, Colorado; Judith (Byrnes) Leduc (Dennis) of Warren, Michigan; Patricia Byrnes of Tiffin, Ohio; Sharon Byrnes of Lakewood, Ohio; Karen (Byrnes) Reid (Archibold) of Princeton, New Jersey; Robert McCall Byrnes, Jr. (Barbara) of Cary, North Carolina; Christine (Byrnes) Pearson (Ed) of Southborough, Massachusetts; James “Jay” Peter Byrnes, Jr. (Laura) of Charlottesville, Virginia; and Timothy Lawrence Byrnes (Jamie) of Charlottesville, Virginia and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in the Byrnes family lot at Union Cemetery.

A mass celebrating Nannette’s life will be held at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Hudson Falls at a later date.
