Irene C. “Mema” Walkup, 60, of 26 1/2 Marion Ave., bravely flew to Heaven above after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born Mar. 09,1957 at Glens Falls Hospital, she was the beautiful daughter of the late Joseph J. Walkup and Ruth M.(Spear) Walkup.
Irene was a committed and highly-valued employee at C.R. Bard in Queensbury for over 37 years. She was the STRONGEST, MOST SELFLESS, loving woman. She loved with every ounce of her being. A Real-Life Superhero, always giving and doing for others her whole life putting herself last. She most loved spending time with her family and friends, especially "her Trace & Bud". She dedicated her whole life to them. Irene loved holiday traditions with the family. She was an avid picture taker. She loved her Welfare rum & Pepsi, her cigs and food, especially crab legs. Her passions were perfecting her flowerbeds and growing tons of plants in her sunroom. She was always making the best of everything and enjoyed a good time. She loved vacationing, camping, and being outdoors. Irene loved to listen to music, especially Keith Urban & Alan Jackson. Irene loved to dance to anything. She collected butterflies and Norman Rockwell decor and so many memories. She loved to read. Her favorite shows were General Hospital, America Ninja Warriors, The Voice,and Greys Anatomy. She enjoyed the CountryFest and GrassRoot Festivals. She was a great organizer and nickname giver.
She is predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Renard E. Walkup (1988) and John M. Walkup (2014).
Left to cherish her memory include her daughter Traci Meade and her husband Ted of SGF, her grandson Blaine Meade,her granddog Mani Man, her boyfriend (caregiver) Stephen Mitchell of SGF, her eight siblings, Ernie Spear and wife Lou of Glens Falls, Joseph Walkup and wife Pat of Argyle, Fred Walkup and wife Linda of Hudson Falls, Gary Walkup and Joan of Schuylerville, Ed Walkup and wife Jodeen of Ft Edward, Bob Walkup and wife Jackie of Gansevoort, Rena Stevens and husband Walt of SGF,Kevin Walkup and wife Patti of Glens Falls, as well as several nieces and nephews, great nieces & nephews and great- great nieces and nephews, the closest being Gary Cutter and wife Carrie and their girls, Lauren Ashley and Lexi Marlena Ruth, Annie Cutter and son Patrick, Kelly Stevens and son Anthony, several dear friends and their families, and her lifelong friend Sandy Williams.
Friends may call from 4-7p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
A memorial service will be held at 7p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
