Obituary for John E Allen

John E Allen
Hudson Falls

John E. Allen, 73, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital after suffering from many health conditions.

Born on January 16, 1944 in Glens Falls he is the son of the late John C. Allen and Helen (Morphis) Reed.

On April 4, 1970 John married the love of his life Shirley A. LaVigne always saying that was the best day of his life. John and Shirley were inseparable from the day they met. They enjoyed doing everything together. Shirley was the best caregiver for John as he had a lot of health challenges for many years. She stood by his side until he went with the Lord.

John was so proud of his children and always supported them in everything they did. He wanted to do so much with them even if he physically could not. He cherished his grandchildren very much and had a special connection with his grandson Bobby. Like John, Bobby has many health challenges and John was always very concerned for him. John had a heart of gold and always told you how he felt. He was very caring, compassionate, honest, and sentimental. His wife Shirley is the same, making them the perfect match.

He loved going to Hampton Beach from the time he met Shirley. John enjoyed wrestling, loved listening to the 60s oldies music and reminiscing of his earlier years, following the teams of his son and son-in-law and getting hats for each of them, and most of all spending time with his family.

John loved making people laugh and always spoke his mind. He loved going out to restaurants and to see movies.

He was a very proud communicant of St. Michaels the Archangel in South Glens Falls.

There was never a moment John didn’t have a job. Early in life he worked at DeLongs Dairy and the Lake George Police Department. John worked 27 years for Scott Paper as a fork-lift operator and unitizer operator. He made many long-term friends and always reminisced about his days there. After retirement from Scott Paper, he worked for Evelyn Flowers, Walmart and then Hannaford until finally deciding to enjoy his full retirement. He was loved so much by all of his co-workers for being an honest, loyal, hard-working man.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his grandparents, Myrtle and Louis Morphis; his mother and father-in-law Edith and Arthur LaVigne.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Shirley Allen of Hudson Falls; his children, Rick (Kristi) Allen of Hudson Falls, and Michelle (Bob) Oliva of Hudson Falls; his grandchildren, Jacob Allen, Kiersten Allen, Alexandra Oliva and Bobby Oliva; his siblings, Sharon Byrd, Gloria MacDougall, Marilyn Spiezio, Sue Kenny, Rick Lathrop, Mike Lathrop, Ericka Lathrop, Wanda Bennett, Debbie McHugh, and Pete Lathrop; his in-laws, Rick and Gloria LaVigne, Mary Clark, and John Keenan; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Friends and family may call from 4p.m. – 7p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home 136 Main St. South Glens Falls 12803.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at St. Michaels the Archangel 80 Saratoga Ave, South Glens Falls, NY 12803 with Rev. Guy A. Childs officiating.

Burial will follow mass at Union Cemetery in Fort Edward.

The family would like to thank Glens Falls Hospital Tower 6 physicians and nurses for taking care of John. A special thanks to Dr. Kandora and Dr. Judkins for providing long-term care for John.
