Obituary for Margaret Irene Putnam (Clingen)

SOUTH GLENS FALLS
Margaret I. Putnam, 96, of South Glens Falls, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2017, in the Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born August 10, 1920, in Saratoga, NY, she was the daughter of the late James and Frances Clingen.

On September 14, 1940, she married Robert G. Putnam the love of her life in St. Peter’s Church in Saratoga Springs. They were married for 74 wonderful years before his passing in April 2015. They are now reunited to share their everlasting love and devotion to each other for eternity.

Margaret was employed for many years by the former First National Bank of Glens Falls, and at the time of her retirement was working in the bank operations center.

Margaret enjoyed collecting primitives, doing needlepoint, reading, decorating her home, traveling, and spending time with her family. She and Robert traveled extensively to Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, Martha’s Vineyard and several western states. They also enjoyed going on several cruises. They very much enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida and Alabama. Margaret cherished going to her grandson Michael’s home for cook-outs, Sunday dinners, birthdays and holidays. She always said Stacey was the best cook ever and her desserts were heavenly.

In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was predeceased by two sisters, Hazel and Louise.

Left to cherish Margaret’s memory are her daughters, Bonita Ann O’Leary and her husband, Timothy, of Hudson Falls; Patricia Gail Martinez of Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren, Dr. Michael J. O’Leary and his wife, Stacey, of Queensbury, and Raquel Martinez and her husband, Javier Rodriquez, of San Juan, PR; five great grandchildren, Keeghan and Devin O’Leary, of Queensbury, Javier Andres Rodriquez, Ana Victoria Rodriquez, and Julianna Raquel Rodriquez of San Juan, PR.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Avenue, in South Glens Falls with Reverend Martin Fisher, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will be conducted at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

The family would like to thank several family friends for their friendship and support for Margaret, including Susan Simione, Elaine Jones, Mary Lou and Nick DiNicola, Sandy and Steve Dickinson and Louise Bruso.
