Donald G. Plude, 89, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Haynes House of Hope in Granville after a brief battle with cancer with his family by his side.
Born April 22, 1928 in West Haven, VT he was the son of the late Levi and Edith (Murray) Plude.
He was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and in 2014 had the honor of visiting the National Monuments in Washington D.C. as part of the Patriot Flight group of Veterans.
Don was employed for 45 years at Imperial/Hercules/Ciba Geigy and upon their closing, he worked for a brief time at Sears and then as a Security Guard at the Hyde Museum.
He loved people and was very social minded taking part in several community activities in the past. He was a previous member of the Fort Edward Rescue Squad, performed as Zobo the clown for the Eagles Children Christmas parties, delivered meals on wheels, served on the Board of Trustees for the South Glens Falls Community Center and played Santa Claus at their Christmas parties. He was a member of the Queensbury VFW Post # 6196, the Knights of Columbus Fort Edward council #336, a member of Washington County 40 + 8 Voiture # 1224 for 51 years. A 58-year member of the Fort Edward American Legion Post # 1133. He served the Legion as a Post Commander, Washington County Commander, 4th District Commander, Department Vice Commander, was Chairman of the Oratorical Contest for many years and also assisted with the Boys State Program at Morrisville.
Don loved a party with good music so he could play the spoons. He always teased the waitresses at his favorite eating spots as well.
Don was a Communicant of St. Mary’s/ St. Pauls Church in Hudson Falls and served as a Eucharistic Minister; as well as being an usher before ill health prevented him from doing so.
In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his siblings, Leonard, Clifford, Orella, Leroy (Charolette) and Gilbert (Teresa); his father and mother-in-law, Jasper and Harriet White; grandson, Terry LaPointe; and a special brother-in-law Noble (Junior) McMurry.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 65 years, Mildred (White) Plude; his children, Gary (Cherilyn) of Florida, Tom (Vicki), Kathy (Andy) Grant, Laurie (David) Cronin, Mark (Toby); sister, Carol Pacyna; sisters-in-law; Elsie McMurry, Lois Belden, and Shirley Washburn (George), brothers-in-law; Wayne White (Lynn) and Bruce White (Zoe), a loving grandfather to Amanda Plude, Maggie (Dave) Torra, Josh Plude, Jill Collins, Jodie (Dan) Boucher, Jennifer (Dave) Jenkins, Michael (Tiffany) Grant, Andrew Grant, Sarah, Stacy and Tiffany Plude, Adam ( Amanda) Gillis, Ashley (Frank) Leroy, Tia (Frank) Zanta, Tara Cronin and companion Keith Ottens, Colleen Cronin, Shawn Cronin and companion Analise Nash; a proud great grandfather to 32 great grandchildren and was happiest when he could have all of his family together.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Wednesday, May 10, 2017at 10am at St. Mary’s/ St. Paul’s on the park in Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
Rite of Committal will follow the services at 12:30pm at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gara and his staff for all the care over the years and thanks to all the nursing staff on Tower 6 and 3 west for their care.
