Obituary for William R. Jansson

William R. Jansson
FORT EDWARD

William “Bill” Jansson, 84, of Fort Edward, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 17, 2017.

Born November 7, 1932 in Mt. Vernon, NY, he was the son of the late Sven Rudolph and Violet (VanHorn) Jansson.

On October 12, 1963, Bill married Marcia Archard at the South Argyle Presbyterian Church with Rev. Donald Nyland officiating.

For a number of years Bill worked as a burner in the turbine and generator department of General Electric in Schenectady. Later jobs included carpentry helper, logger, and boilerman in a paper mill. His last employment years were in the housekeeping department at the NYS Wilton Developmental Center in Wilton, NY where he retired after 20 years in 1995.

Bill emmigrated to Sydney, Australia with his family in the fall of 1971, returning to New York State in the spring of 1972. With the help of his family, he built a log home on Argyle. His hobbies included coon and deer hunting, fishing, bowling, swimming, archery, beekeeping, and paint by number kits. He and his siblings were avid pinochle players as well as other card games, plus Yahtzee and Quiddler.

Bill was an active member of the Durkeetown Baptist Church in Fort Edward, NY, having served as a trustee and VBS helper by painting murals. He also painted the church’s bell tower and repaired the slate roof.

In later years, Bill was a member of the Stephentown and Old Saratoga Senior Citizens.
Most of all, Bill was a loving husband to his wife Marcia, a loving father to his son Paul and his daughters Lori, Jill, and Jackie, and loving grandfather to his ten grandchildren and his five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister Florence Jansson.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Marcia Jansson, his children; Paul Jansson and wife Karen of Argyle, Lori Lyon and husband David of Auburn, ME, Jill Bialas and husband Martin of Argyle, and Jackie Blaisdell and husband Adam of Middle Grove, brothers; Wesley Jansson and wife Eileen of Averill Park, Richard Jansson and wife Joan of Colchester, CT, Ernest Jansson and wife Katherine of Argyle, and David Jansson, sister Edith Beach of Averill Park, nephew Charles Justus and wife Shirley, as well as ten grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

At Bill’s request there will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11am on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Durkeetown Baptist Church, 2 Durkeetown Rd, Fort Edward, NY 12828 with Rev. Ken Prater officiating.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
