Obituary for David William Zimmer

David William Zimmer
Queensbury
David W. Zimmer, 68, of Colonial Court passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday January 4, 2017 at his home.

Born on December 23, 1948 in Schenectady, NY he was the son of the late, Herbert W. and Mabel A. (Conger) Zimmer.

David attended High School at Bishop Gibbons School in Schenectady graduating in the class of 1966. After graduation he earned his Bachelors Degree in Psychology at Oneonta State University and later his Masters Degree in Counseling and Social Services from Springfield College.

Throughout his working life, David was employed as a Materials Manager, first with Mallinckrodt Argyle and then, Engine Systems, Schenectady and lastly, Barton Mines in North Creek, until his retirement in 2006. He was proud of his accomplishments and happy to have made so many long lasting friendships at the various companies where he was employed.

On August 19, 1972, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Murphy at St. Madeleine Sophie Church in Guilderland, NY.

David was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls from 2004 to present. He was very active in the church serving as an usher. Faith was very important to him as he had a special devotion to Mary and the Rosary. He regularly attended Mass and spent many hours praying and meditating.

To his family and friends, David was a miracle. After surviving major strokes, he continued to always persevere, to heal his body and mind, improve his health and inspire others.

David enjoyed the outdoors, especially activities such as cycling, hiking, cross country skiing, power walking and riding his tractor. He was an avid gardener, who loved planting flowers around his house in the many flower beds he had created as well as striving to have the perfect lawn. He had a passion for photography and even took classes to enhance his skills. He was considered a handyman by his children, as he took on countless home improvement projects including helping his daughters with their houses. David was always learning and trying to expand his knowledge. He loved his dogs, his “good boy and good girl”, Judd and Ginger, but most of all he loved the time he spent with his family. David always made time for others.

David is predeceased by his parents.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Kathleen (Murphy) Zimmer, of Queensbury; his children, Sarah Thomas and her husband, Benjamin, of Warrensburg, Maggie Pascucci and her husband, Chris, of Saratoga Springs and Tim Zimmer and his wife, Nancy Liu, of Los Angeles, CA; his grandchildren, Mina Pascucci and Orson Thomas; his sisters, Mary Markham and her husband, Joseph and Sue Pfohl and her husband, Ken; his twin brother, Paul Zimmer and his wife, Renee; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to call from 2–4 pm on Sunday January 8, 2017 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St. So. Glens Falls, NY 12803. To view David’s Book of Memories and to post online condolences please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am on Monday January 9, 2017 at St. Michaels’ the Archangel Church, Saratoga Ave. So. Glens.
