Obituary for Lois R. "White" Anderson (Anderson)

Lois R. "White" Anderson (Anderson)
Delmar & Argyle
Lois R. Anderson, 89, of the Good Samaritan Lutheran Home in Delmar, and formerly of Argyle and Glens Falls, passed away peacefully on September 18th. Born in Ithaca, NY on February 21, 1927, Lois was the daughter of the late John L. and Marie (Farr) White. Lois was also predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Stanley M. Anderson, who passed away in 2005.
Lois graduated from Ithaca High School in 1945 and the Rochester Business Institute the following year and landed her first job as a secretary with the Grange League Federation in Ithaca. She met her future husband through her sister and enjoyed a motorcycle ride up and down the steep hills of Ithaca as a first date. Stanley and she were married on March 11, 1950 at the Ithaca Lutheran Church. Both had a love of nature and outdoor activities, including bicycling, hiking, camping, canoeing, sailing, swimming, gardening and flying in small aircraft piloted by Stan, in the early years of their marriage. Lois helped Stan build a log cabin at Pilot Knob, on the east side of Lake George, where the family enjoyed many summers. Lois and Stan went up in a hot air balloon to celebrate their fiftieth anniversary.
Lois was a loving, devoted mother, as well as a dedicated wife. She spent many years as home room mother, involved in the PTA, and never missed her children’s concerts and school outings. She had a loving and special relationship with each of her seven grandchildren, enjoying their childhoods and watching them grow up into wonderful young adults. She was also community minded throughout her life and was actively involved in the Volunteer Fire Department’s Women’s Auxiliary and the Methodist Church during the 21 years that she and Stan raised their children in Argyle.
Upon retiring to Glens Falls in 1980, Lois began the next phase of her life with Stan, as empty nesters, beginning with assisting him in physically building a new home on Carlton Court. While residing in Glens Falls, Lois was a member of the Fortsville United Methodist Church, and later, when the drive was too far, the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church. She was active in Seniors on Bikes, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and as a support and advocate with the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. Lois was a kind and social person who had a favorite saying, that, “if you don’t have something good to say about someone, don’t say anything at all.” She lived by this motto and was well liked and respected by many people. Lois was proud of her Mayflower heritage and belonged to the Denison Foundation, in Mystic, CT, an historic home maintained for the genealogy of the Dennison descendants, which includes Lois’ ancestors.
Lois relocated to Colonie in 2007 to be nearer to her children in the Capital Region. She spent several quality years and met many new friends at the Beltrone Senior Living Center before injuries falls led to her move to the Good Samaritan in 2014. She was an enthusiastic participant in all the activities at Good Samaritan before becoming ill this past spring. The family would like to thank the staff at the Good Samaritan for their kind and loving care of Lois, and to the Hospice staff for their support.
Lois is survived by her children: Karen (Tom) Mezs of Lakewood, WA and grandchildren, Marisa and Robert (Sydney) Mezs; Eric Anderson of Tacoma, WA; Ruth (Sheldon) Singer of Delmar, NY and grandchildren, Nathan, Herschel and Isaac; Iver (Pat) Anderson of East Greenbush, NY and grandchildren Ryan and Sarah; and Susan Anderson of Norwalk, CT. She is also survived by many loving nephews and nieces and her brother-in law, Wallace Anderson of Bemus Point, NY. In addition to her parents and her husband, Lois was also predeceased by her older sisters Marion (White) Lawrence and Margaret (White) Hagin and their spouses, a niece, Joan (Hagin) Patterson, and a brother in law, Manley Anderson, and now, long ago, her treasured paternal aunts, Ruth and Marion, and maternal aunt, Jeannette.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21st at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main Street, Argyle. Funeral services will be immediately after calling hours, with the burial to follow at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Argyle.
