Obituary for Robert Neil Yando

HARTFORD

Robert N. Yando, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 26, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Born July 18, 1942, in Tupper Lake, NY, he was the son of the late Elysium and Margaret (Bombard) Yando.

Robert attended Tupper Lake High School before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he was proud to have served on the U.S.S. Kittyhawk.

On August 31, 1985, he married Margaret (Maggie) McHenry.

Robert was a communicant of the Church of St. Mary’s/St. Pauls’s in Hudson Falls, NY.

On August 1, 2001, Robert retired as a sergeant from the NYS Dept. of Correctional Services where he led by example, inspired others and had the respect of all of his coworkers. His sons Neil Yando and Nathan Yando also work for the NYS Dept. of Corrections.

Robert was a member of the American Legion Post 574 in Hudson Falls, NY, as well as the American Legion Motorcycle Club in Vero Beach, FL. Most of all, Robert loved spending time with his children and his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Robert is predeceased by his brother, Kenny Yando, and his brother-in-law, Martin McHenry.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 28 years, Maggie Yando, his children; Robert Yando Jr. of Bloomingdale,NY, Neil Yando and his partner Shawna Healy of Poughquag,NY, Nathan Yando and Andrea Yando of Hartford, NY, and Jennifer Pugliese of Hartford,NY, , his grandchildren; Brendan and Karragan Yando, Corbin Yando, Maria Hernandez, and Cameron Robert Garnsey, his sisters; Sandra Pickering and her husband Warren of Tupper Lake, NY, and Althea D’Avigon and her husband Herbie of Queensbury,NY, his sisters-in-law; Lynn White and her husband Dale of Queensbury, Sue Dupre of MA, and Mary Nadig and her husband Dave of VA, a brother-in-law, Michael McHenry and his wife Nancy of Hudson Falls, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many close friends.

At Robert’s request, there will be no calling hours.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the Church of St.Mary’s/St. Paul’s in Hudson Falls, NY 12839, with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, Pastor, and Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating.

Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, South Glens Falls, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Robert’s name be made to Friends of Hospice (Washington County), 415 Lower Main Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
